Against the odds hatching thread (with pictures and questions)

Pics
I have new chicken tech! Got an outdoor camera so I can spy on them in the run, too :D And to check for predators. It’s under the roof of the run, but close to the edge so I cut a piece of roofing material and bent it so it fits between the roof and the top plate, between two of the rafters. It fits snugly, and I drilled it into the wood as well. It’s a pretty good seal now, hopefully that will stop any horizontal rain or snow when we get storms. It’s an outdoor camera so it should be fine, but I wanted to protect it and extend its life (and protect the cords).

Here’s the camera setup:

Pan and zoom?
Did you have a run build thread?
Thought I was following but haven't seen any notices.
No pan, but it can see almost everything (except a few inches along the far edges). I can zoom on my phone. Couldn’t justify the cost difference with a pan cam, especially because this one isn’t as necessary as the coop cam. I can see and count them on the coop cam to make sure everybody went inside at night. This one is mostly for fun :D

I do have a build thread, I just haven't updated it in forever because I have a million and a half build photos to sort through  Will do it soon though!

I think you need to do another hatch. Get yourself a Partridge Orpington hen ;)
My kids are already working on me to do a partridge only hatch  I told them if we get a broody next spring, I’ll buy her some partridge eggs to hatch and hopefully we’ll get a girl out of it. Or, if this little guy here ends up being quiet and nice with us, I’ll let him live and we’ll hatch his half-partridge babies so he can live on. Either way, I do want the mama hen experience at some point...

Broodies are a wonderful experience! I love having a good one around whenever possible. My best broody hatched and raised 14 chicks! She was one busy Mama.

Glad that chick grew up strong. What a handsome fellow. I understand it was alarming at the time but didn't look too terrible to me. Those typically just dry up and fall off like a scab. Same as your roo's did.

Thanks! I kept checking it for a while and it kept getting drier and drier. Probably fell off, I’m not sure because after a while I stopped checking. He never acted out of the ordinary at all, so I just assumed he was fine so I let it go. I might part the fluff and take a look now, just out of curiosity
