Aggression toward just one hen

Interesting. My hen that is getting beat up was also the Alpha hen. There might be something about that that makes the rooster feel a need to put her down.

More than once she rolled him while he was trying to establish himself.

I'm sure that's a big part of it, it's just odd to me that it took so long to manifest.

I have no idea if this hen beat up on him when he was younger. He's only 6 months old now. With the winter here having a lot of snow I've only been seeing to the chickens every 2 or 3 days. They have enough water for over a week and food to last several days. Even when I was outside I just didn't spend much time observing them.

It's an interesting idea. Alpha hen puts young cockerel in his place. When he is finally large enough and has enough hormones to back him up, he might have figured to pay her back.
