I only have 1 male and 1 female, and he is an aggressive little a@#$&()!! He not only rapes my female more than I would like to see, but he also attacks both of my dogs, a terrier mix and a Great Dane mix. The Great Dane doesn't care, as she thinks the Drake is playing, but the Terrier mix won't go into the yard anymore unless she knows they are locked up, or she has her human protection. In addition to the rape and attacking of the dogs, he bites me as I feed and water them. He even chases me around the yard as I walk to the chicken coop. I have tried different techniques such as picking him up and holding him like a baby in my arms, similar to the Alpha roll I use when training my dogs. The other technique I tried is gently pushing down on his hind side and his neck, very similar to what he does to my female when he is trying to mate with her, and holding him there for a few seconds until he accepts that I am dominant and then I let him up. I am not being forceful to the point of doing any harm to him. However he will leave me alone for a couple minutes and then come right back charging at me with his head down as he runs toward me. Also, my poor female looks like she might be starting to suffer from his aggression and raping her.

I read on this site that the ratio should be three females to one male. (I wish the store I bought them from would have told me that before I bought these two). What is the best way to remedy the aggressiveness and keep my female from being abused by the Drake? If I purchase 2 females this spring, will they all get along since they were not raised together? And at what age can I put the newer ducklings with the older ones since the male I currently have is a raging hormonal jerk? I have considered getting rid of the male, but don't know how that will affect the female.

P.S. - I may call him names, but I am very good to him and love them both a lot.

You can make a separate pen for him [giving him time out] @onaharley had to do this with her 2 Pekins

Then in spring or before if you can find 2 or more females to add to your 2 put adults in with the female and let them bond then after a few weeks with all ducks being able to see each other try them all together. Ducklings will have to be of mating age before they can be introduced to your drake.

What we see with drakes this time of year is very typical it's just their over run hormones That is why it is so important we make sure these drakes have more than one female to shower all their sexual urges with. Take the broom along with you when you go in with them and sweep him away from you. And you'll have to do the same with him and the dogs. Thankfully my drakes have never challenged the dogs and I have 5 dogs but my geese sure have and I used the broom and long poles to train the geese that the dogs are off limits.

It must be in the AIR......I just updated my separation post and feel like i am losing this battle.

How about bird netting over top with tie wraps holding it down.? Gosh I am so thankful I don't have to deal with this it's mostly my Runner girls throwing themselves at Snoop my Runner drake.
I will be taking pictures of the coop tonight, the DH has helped me with my ideas to make this better, but i am thinking that floor to ceiling fencing is going to be put up. We do have the Orange yard fencing that might get put up tonight. DH thought it might be a hazardous since TED is flying.....but i will see......
