Aggressive Rooster - Best Rooster Breed

Agressive towards other roosters in a crowded space with insufficient hens, YES. Agressive towards people??? BIG NO!!!
They can have unlimited space and unlimited hens and they are still aggressive to other roosters. Even the hens can be aggressive to other hens, or roosters that they deem unworthy. But they love their people.

My hens all sunshine and lollypopski until they go broody.

I currently have a 14 month old Olive Egger rooster (Blue Ameraucana × Black Copper Marans) that is extremely aggressive towards humans. He is great with the hens and is very attentive and always alerts them to food, predators, and when it's time for bed. However, we recently had 2 intruders and he did NOTHING. We had a neighbors Guniea visit our coop a few weeks ago and it pecked one of our hens a few times and the rooster didn't do anything about it. Yesterday we had a skunk in our coop because we left the doors open for them to free range and again the rooster did nothing. It seems that the rooster only protects the hens against us. My 3 year old niece loves the chickens and I would never forgive myself if the rooster attacked her. He's already scared away my mother in law and to be honest I hate him. We are considering getting rid of him and are wondering if there are specific breeds of rooster that are known for being great with the flock and docile towards people. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated :)
Hi, For the aggressive rooster. Pick him up, hold him to your chest, poop cannon aimed in a safe direction, of course. Spin in a tight circle until you get dizzy. Set him down. As soon as you get your composure, do it again. Put him down, first couple times he tries to stand up, push him over with your toe. He will be far worse of than you, he'll think you have given him the beating of his life, without having to hurt him. He will be a little skittish for a bit, but if you aren't wanting to cook him... **Warning this is funny, the poor chicken acts drunk, don't let the kids see or they will be showing their friends how it is done when you're not around. As for protection, a good dog trumps the best rooster I think, so long has it doesn't eat them, lol. Good luck.

American Games. They can handle the weather. And when maintained in a similar manner can match all the desirable mental attributes attributed to the Orientals. A single male can be trained to handle well and come when called. They can be quite intelligent when kept in a complex environment where they can exercise their mind.

Ugh it's so hard! I love him because I raised him and he is my first boy, but at the same time I hate him and he terrifies me and everyone else. I just can't seem to correct his behavior. I'm so sorry you were injured. That sounds terrible!
I have a buff orpington rooster by default since he was supposed to be a girl, and he was really sweet until he hit around one year. After that he would randomly attack whomever came into the run except for me probably because I fed him and the girls. I went out of town for a few weeks in May and when I returned he began attacking me as well. So I bought a large net and netted him a few times whenever I walked inside the run in the mornings. Then I would just go about my business while he hopped around inside the net. (Big fishmeran's net) Now all I have to do is reach for the net and he takes off. He's so beautiful I can't make myself get rid of him. I just tell my grandkids (10yo) to take the net inside with them if they want to hold the girls. He's deathly afraid of it. LOL, I say whatever works. Oddly, when I let them all freerange, he's not aggressive at all.

That definitely works. Do you leave him in the net while, or just the threat of the net? Sometimes it's hard to understand what they understand. One of my tractors , the tarp is only a foot off the ground on the south side. Daily, rooster follows my boots around that side in attack mode, but when I get to the door and he recognizes me bringing food he is fine. The other rooster, he is in an large fenced in area, I let the turkeys in when they were just a little too small, he would harass them and try to do what roosters do. I was working outside the fence and had a 10 foot piece if pvc pipe. The gate was far, so I reached over the fence and gave him a little "whap" to knock him off the back of the turkey. (nothing brutally hard, more of a push through, than a hit) He tried one more time, same result. Now, he's at my feet when I feed them, and will eat from my hand. If I am walking through the lot carrying anything that resembles that pipe, I see nothing but his tail feathers.

I keep the net next to the run and I pick it up on the way inside every day. As soon as he sees me reach for it, he turns from the door to the run and heads to the coop (at the opposite end). I never have to net him anymore, but if he does get "froggy," I've got my handy net within reach.
