Thanks all for your kind words. I think we have settled it now that we will let him go in the coming days. On Monday I essentially walked right through him to make a point, which he didn't take kindly to, and since then he is running from me (I didn't hurt him but defended myself with my boot pretty fiercely and continued to move him out of my way until he really got the point).
The area where the chickens are kept runs alongside our driveway and occasionally my Mum walks up and down the drive to my uncle's house at the road end. I noticed that Pingu chases her up and down the fence and I think this is a large part of the problem - he thinks each time that he has successfully chased her off. Now she stops by him, stands up tall, makes herself as big as possible until he backs down and moves away. We are planning for him to go anyway but until that is organised I figure it won't hurt to nip that in the bud!
