I have a white maran rooster that was suppose to be a pullet. He and the others were hatched May 5th, so 4 1/2 months old. He is my first rooster so thought I would see how it goes. He has been of good temperament until now. Tried to mate with my smallest hen and caused fatal injuries. Also pulled out head feathers from one of my older hens and she was a bloody mess. She will survive but I have separated him from the rest and trying to get rid of him. I would harvest him but never did that and I don’t want to do it myself. Is this common with some roosters to be that aggressive?

I had to cull two cockerels because of aggression at four months. I tried to find a home (no takers), and asked my neighbor if anyone at her church wanted 2 free chicken dinners, some disassembly required.

I ended up having to cull them myself. It was very hard, but very necessary.

If there are any people near you who hunt, they may be open to "doing the deed" for you. Craig's List is another possibility. There is a woman about an hour from me who always takes unwanted fowl, as she uses them to feed her dogs. I didn't see ANY requests for a cockerel/rooster, except for to be used for food.

I agree with SBFChickenGirl. If I were you, I would get rid of him. It's NOT easy, but I know I may have to do it again some day for the good of my flock. It is especially hard when they are "accidental" boys. Not their fault they were born male.
