Agressive Male Chicks

I have 2 B.O. roosters and they are actually sweeter than the hens. They are all considerably nicer than my RIRs. Maybe they are getting hurt when the lights are out since they dont see good at night. Try putting a night light in there? Hoping for the best!!

I have Buff Orphington hens that I raised from chicks. Two of the sweetest birds ever.

I notice that the chicks in your picture appear to have some brown on them - if so, those are NOT BO chicks. BO chicks are solid yellow. I don't know about other colors of Orphingtons, but the BO's are yellow.

Sorry, I went back and saw that you said "Orphingtons", not "Buff Orphintons". I don't know if there is a difference in temperament with the other colors in Orphingtons as I've only had the Buffs.

So... having lost one a night for the first three nights, I put a light in there as suggested, and lo and behold they've been fine for the last two nights!!
I guess darkness was the issue.
That makes me so sad that I didn't find out sooner.

Seems crazy. I would assume that the light being on all night would mess with their biological clocks?

I've put a lamp in there so it's at least lower light at night rather than having the ceiling light on all night.

I guess I can start turning the light off again when they're a bit older and sturdier?

I didnt have a light on mine at 2 weeks old (I use a brooder heater pad) and they have all been fine. I would wait at least until that age. Glad you figured out the problem!!
