ahhh BATS!

I have lots of bats around my property. Would hardware cloth with 1/2 " squares keep bats from roosting in my coops ceiling.

Yeah. If a bat can get in so can mice and snakes. Put a house on the outside of your coop. I'd love to have more bats around here

Bats mean fewer moths, mosquitoes and all kinds of other insects that fly at night.

To answer your question, yes, 1/2" mesh hardware cloth should keep them out of your henhouse, but there are also some fairly simply bat shelters you can make out of scrap wood to give them a place to live away from the henhouse where they can still give you the benefit of their voracious insect appetites....

The bats used to live in my barn. But since I demo'ed the barn last year thay found there way to my soffet and my garage. I guess I should build a bat house or two.

Don't close them off until you build the bat houses and put them up. If you put up a light weight bird netting with a bit of a funnel shape so that they can scoot out of it. They will go out but not come back in. But put your houses up so they have a place to go.
