Ahhhh What is wrong with these people! .... happy ending

I just wanted to add my empathy to the mix! It seems to be harder and harder to find people of their word in this world. I wouldn't give my chickens (or so much as a pet rock, for that matter) to the kind of people you've been encountering.

I do a lot of animal rescue and it takes extraordinary effort to find good, responsible people. It really is exasperating at best, and hugely depressing most of the time! (I hate to depress you further but I meet many that seem like model citizens at first and even second and third meeting but I've learned to do extensive screening after finding that even many of those had serious dark or irresponsible traits they were masking. It's come down to doing site visits for all adoptions).

The good people are out there but I have to pull a lot of weeds to find them. It's incredibly time consuming but I endure it, because I would not be able to sleep at night worrying about innocent lives in the hands of questionable people. I really truly am sorry for what you are experiencing and hope some wonderful people that help restore your faith surface before long. JJ

Humm...sorry to hear about your troubles. If I could...I'd take them off of you (I'm in Fleming, CO like 20 miles south of NE border) and make you feel NOT so guilty! LOL!

I really hate it when people give you the run around, and I don't play games with them.

If you want to buy something from me (car, truck, auto parts, chickens, etc...) give me a date and time and be there on time.

I'm the same way when I buy from other people, just ask speckledhen, I drove over 100 miles one way to buy chickens from her and I was there on time, thats just the way I do business.

And he was on time, too! I remarked on it to my DH. Thank you, Lee. It's the way I am, too. If I don't show up, you can bet something awful happened to me and I couldn't even get to a phone. I will not keep someone waiting because their time is just as valuable as mine is.

I'd tell these people to go pound sand and keep my danged birdies!
I had some guy stand me up for a full bag of Pokemon cards for his kids, not once, not twice but 3 times!!!so to heck with him. I've kept the cards.
People don't seem to think that they word is their bond anymore...I will always try and be on time and if I can't make it I will call and let you know if I'm going to be late or not make it at all...that's just common courtesy.

Not only does it seem to be the way today but you can almost come to expect it too! I find it beyond rude.
I am one of those people that is not on time but early, when I say I will be there I WILL be there. I keep better time than a clock. So yes, it does aggrivate me, I would politely tell these chick purchasers that they were sold to others that were ON TIME.

I think to protect yourself (at least marginally) and to give them an incentive (none better than the pocketbook) you should demand a non-refunable deposit to reserve birds. Most livestock breeders require a non-refundable deposit to reserve potential offspring from a particular breeding, and I don't see why started pullets should be any different. The only way the money is refunded (in the case of livestock) is if no suitable offspring are produced. If they are truly serious about having chickens they will rush over when the birds are ready. If they don't, they were never meant to care for animals and you can sell them to someone else. Just be sure to tell them after they blow you off that they are relieved of their order -as long as the deposit isn't equal to the total final price they have nothing to argue about.

a) (because I am a grammar freak) it should be 'Chickens not picked up at that time will be sold.' I might put 'will be sold' in caps... bold...

b) require a deposit or paid in full

c) approved homes only (so you can tell them 'actually now that you've said your dog killed 125 chickens... here's your money back')

I just thought I'd say I know what you mean , but I dont sell anything we rescue biggest part of everything we have. Just imagine going to somebodys place (after reciveving a phone call from our buddies at our local shelter) and asking them to improve on the living conditions of the animals they have that the shelter won't take. Leaving with them telling you they will do something because they dont want to lose anthing else after having other animals taken and later having to go back a few days later because nothing has changed (It's not that hard to feed water and clean and provide shelter for what you took responseability for) It just mads me so (*$^@#%) mad. When you say your gonna do something just do it instead of wooring about yourself Sincely Mike & Kelley The Thomas Retirement Home of Birds
