AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WHY do people let their cats out at night!!?????????

I totally get this. Ran over my own cat in my own driveway on holloween eve two years ago.

It was a stray that we had taken in - didn't do indoors well.

I'm sorry this happened to you!

Oh Red, I'm so sorry this happened to you.

My very very loved and missed indoor cat got out a bit less then a year ago and was hit by a car. He was hit on his way home from his adventures. Even though it still hurts, never once did I blame the person who hit him - he was a black cat and it was on a curve.

So, I want to tell you thank you for stopping. Even though you knew what you would find, and were unable to locate the owner. You still did the right thing. In no way was what happened your fault. Those images will stay with you for a while, the best way to get rid of it is to watch TV (not something I do often) and blot it out. Watch something engaging enough to distract your brain.

I'm so sorry redhen.
Sorry your evening ended badly, and sad for the cat.
That's the way of outdoor cats.
Time will help, and if it's owner is anything like the rest of us catlovers, there will be room for 2 more.

Thanks guys...

I'll be okay..(of course)..
I'm just all wound up right now...

I am also sorry this happened to you and I also get mad. I am also a person that lets my neutered cats in and out. Fortunately most altered cats don't go far from home. Having said that we currently have a missing cat. We think he went back to our old house ( we moved in April) He has been missing a week now. we did try to keep him in but he shredded the screens and the paint off the doors. Please know that if he got hit by a car he was loved and will be missed. He had a microchip and we hope that we will be notified of his demise. We also hope that like you he did not cause anyone else to be injured or have a heart attack. I am sorry you are suffering and very glad that the cat did not suffer either.

We hit a beautiful white cat driving with lots of traffic on HWY 101 two weeks ago. She bolted out in front of us, broke our front fender and our license went flying. We didn't even know what it was until we turned around to go back for the pieces of our car. Still, I felt so bad for the owner because I know how I'd feel if my own Kitty didn't come home after a hunt. There were a number of ocean front houses where this cat could have come from but we did not go knocking on doors to find them. Hubby pulled her off the road and collected our car parts. He was telling me about a court case where someone was trying to sue the owners of a cat, but they lost because by law, cats cannot be controlled. I know I have two dogs with a dog door to the back yard and trying to keep my cat inside would be impossible. (EXCEPT when I let the chickens out for a bit... then nobody goes anywhere unless she's locked in a bedroom for the duration!
