The malines are getting big. The one with the shorter tail seems particularly calm. He wasn't quite tidbitting this morning, but I watched him pick carrot slices out of the mash trough and put them on the ground and allow smaller chicks to have them. I even watched a buckeye snatch one directly out of his mouth! Didn't seem to bother him at all.

The auto pop door arrived today!

Now they can come and go as they please during daylight hours.

Now that we have the fence up and the door installed, I spent 4 hours out at the coop this afternoon cleaning and setting up an integration pen for the 7 malines in the garage brooder.

Not bad for a vague idea and nothing but scrap!

The baby malines! At 7 1/2 weeks these guys are nearly as big as the 10 1/2 week old buckeyes! My favorite pullet is the one with the white eyebrow. She had a white spot there on her chick down too. Kinda hoping she never loses it.

Also, one of the easter eggers laid her first egg today!

The eyebrow on your favorite gives her a very intriguing look -- as if she's studying her situation and isn't sure it's up to her standards

Congratulations on the Easter egger's first egg!! After years of having hens that lay greens and blues, I still appreciate every one of their colorful creations.
