Air bubble in neck, please help

I started using a syringe to give her the medicated water since she’s not drinking. I also gave her two drops of straight Corid as a last ditch effort. Woke up around 2am and she’s still alive so gave her another syringe of the Corid mixture. I put a heat lamp near her since she was so puffed up she looked like a balloon. Haven’t fed her all day so will give her some yogurt in the morning if she makes it that far.

I also went into the coop yesterday and gave the chicks each a 3mm full syringe of the Corid water to make sure they were drinking. I have four or five with very low muscle tone. I may give them a couple of drops of straight Corid if they turn for the worse overnight. Massaged all crops. Took feed and water out over night so I can check their crops in the morning to make sure they’re emptying. I’m also planning on changing out their bedding tomorrow and cleaning their coop.

My chick is still alive, but still not doing well. Not eating or drinking except when I force water into her but her poop does have less blood in it so there’s that. The chicks in the coop seem to be doing a tiny bit better. All but one has an empty crop and the one who had something had very little. I massaged it and gave all of them 3mls of Corid water again.

In one of my other coops, however, one of my hens laid a soft shelled egg. That’s never happened and I do have oyster shell and crushed egg shells available to them at all times. There are three that are broody so I’ve kicked them out of the hen house the past two days because they have lost a lot of weight. I’m wondering if their refusal to leave the hen house contributed to the soft egg. Hopefully it’s not related to illness. Would it be related to the Corid water? Sorry for writing so much, just haven’t encountered this illness before.

Corid is a Coccidiostat the mimics vitamin B1 (Thiamine) which starves out Coccidia. It should not interfere with egg laying.

Can you post some photos of the sick chicks, their poop and your housing?

If you have a vet that can run some tests on the poop, that would be a good idea. Hopefully getting the Corid into them will help.

You mention some have low muscle tone - can you explain that a little more - have they lost weight? What are you feeding them?

You can massage the crop to assist in breaking down any blockage
Do not let it go to long as it can stretch the crop leading to impacted or muscle weakening to do it natural thing. I lost a chicken 2 months ago due to impact and streched muscle. I hope your girl is ok. You can you tube videos on how to massage the crop. Also recommend withholding food a day, massage and then start of soft diet monitor (mash, scambled egg, yogart) and repeat, no fruit do to.sometjing about the sugar and yeast i think) keep water around to assist.

Thanks. I’ll take a picture in the morning. All but one of the chicks in the coop seem to be gaining back their “spirit” and strength. When I say muscle tone, it’s that they lost weight and have no energy and hardly move a muscle when I pick them up. They’re weak and don’t even try to run from me, like usual. They don’t have the strength to push up and try to get out of my hold. All but one had an empty crop yesterday morning. I’ll check again tomorrow morning.

The chick I brought inside the house is still alive. She’s eating a bit, but still doesn’t have her balance. She was sleeping on her side last night and I thought she had passed. She can take one or two steps and tips over, but can’t remember how to walk at times. Wings are droopy. It’s a step up from being a balloon that isn’t eating and is pooping blood, but still not too optimistic. I wonder if I gave her too much Corid so gave some straight water and one syringe of vitamins with electrolytes. When I hold her for balance, she pushes up straight (making herself tall) instead of walking forward most of the time.3 She can feed herself once I walk her over to it. Her legs aren’t paralyzed, she just can’t figure out how to make them move the right way a lot of the time.

The chickens have been treated with Corid since Saturday, but I neglected to tell my husband to mix and replace a new batch of water each morning when I was out of town on Sunday and Monday so he used the water from Saturday. I don’t know if I should start counting days from Tuesday when I got back and replaced water daily, or from Saturday with the old Corid water. Will it hurt them to give them Corid until Monday?

Have you been giving vitamins and electrolytes with the Corid? Corid is a vitamin B1 blocker, generally you save the vitamins until after you finish the course of treatment.

If she is still pooping blood after all this time on the Corid, you may need to use a Sulfa drug, some strains of Coccidia can be harder to treat than others or seek vet care. A photo of the poop would be good.

Corid can be given 7 days, then at a reduced dosage for another 7 if needed. If you feel that have not been given the correct dosage since Saturday, then I would give the full dosage for a full 7 days. It's mild and won't hurt them.

I have given vitamins to the chick inside when I thought I overdosed her so wanted to try to negate it for a day. Her poop is back to green. Here are a couple pictures of the coop.

There is still one questionable chick outside so I syringed 3ml Corid water to it again this morning. The chick inside was standing a bit better today until I gave her Corid water and now she’s off balance again. I’m not sure if I should stop treatment, give vitamins to counteract after a couple hours, or just continue with treatment.

It’s been a week plus on Corid. My hen inside still has a bit of red in her stool, but it’s no longer bright red blood globs. She’s walking again and no longer puffed up. How much longer should I treat her with full strength Corid since there is still a tinge of red? Also, what is the preventative strength Corid for my chickens outside and how often should I use it? Thank you. 9FE3ACF2-14B0-4423-B29D-CB585825B665.jpeg
