I have not seen one this bad. Be prepared to do an assisted hatch. I had a couple shipped call duck eggs this spring that were badly saddled. Both required assistance to hatch. Both are now healthy normal ducks.

Any tips on how u done ur assisted hatch? Iv done an assisted hatch on a chicken but I felt I cuda done better thankfully chick survived tho xx

Of my ducklings, one externally pipped but was unable to turn in the egg so could not zip. The other internally pipped, but because of how it was positioned could not reach the shell to externally pip or zip.

I raise a lot of poultry of different species and we, my wife and I, do quite a few assisted hatches; especially with shipped eggs.

C that wat similar to the 1 I helped it internally pipped and cudnt reach shell after ages I helped,so will I wait till internally pip then make a safety hole then leave a day then if no external will I assist or as sn as internally pipped will I assist, really want this lil 1 to survive we nicknamed it cracker Jack coz cracked shell 😂😂 He's so strong the way his egg rolls around xx

Hit the wrong button.

My wife is better at assisted hatches as she is much more nimble fingered than me.

We usually wait for a chick/duckling to hatch normally then we watch the other eggs carefully. When some have hatched we know that it is close to hatch time for all the ducklings.

To start, my wife removes a small piece of shell so that the membrane is clearly visibly. If the membrane is milky-white with veins full of blood it is too soon to assist.

The eggs are checked hourly. When the membrane becomes transluscent in appearance and bloodless, or nearly so, Kimmi removes the shell on the rounded end where the pip mark is. Then she removes the underlying membrane and pushes the membrane edges back over the remaining shell as much as possible to keep the membrane from drying to the duckling.

Only the shell and membrane on the rounded end is removed much the same as a hatching duckling would do. Of course, should the duckling pip on the wrong end, then it's the pointed end that is removed.

We never remove a chick/duckling from the egg. It is important that the baby push their way out. If a duckling is removed from the shell before all the yolk sack is absorbed the duckling's chances at survival are slim.

With the duckling that could not externally pip, we made a small hole (pip) in the egg when all the other eggs had pipped and some time had passed.

Okay thank u u, this 1 has a crack that I covered at the start the shell fell away its about a cm big n the white membrane is showing but as iv said its covered jus now n its in the aircell but so iv got a start but to work with if need to assist, xx

There is a shell membrane (what you saw when the shell fell away) and another membrane between the duckling and the air cell. It is this membrane that I wrote about in my, above, posts.
