Alabama Bantam Club's Spring Bantam/Large Fowl Show - Clanton, AL

I still have a couple of large fowl Ameraucana and they run with my pen of mixed breed bantams and large fowl and they do just fine. Both my Ameraucanas are hens and I have large fowl Cochins running with them. I no longer have any bantam Cochins but when I had them I never had any problems but as with adding any new bird be sure to watch them for a few days to make sure they get along.

Can't wait for this show...

I am planning to be at the show on April 16. This will be my first chicken show, ever, and I don't really know what to expect. I plan to bring my wife and 4 year old granddaughter. I am on this forum a lot but I don't post often. I love reading what other people have to say on here, and I would like to meet as many of you as I can on April 16. See'ya there.

TMoore,

You will love this show, the nicest people in the world..

We'll be there. A note to newcomers: If ya have a bird you're thinking you wouldn't mind showing if you knew how to do it, I'd sign up and bring it! We had never been to a show, but Claudia and others in this club made us feel right at home, we kinda regretted not bringing any birds to show that first time. Plenty of really nice folks were more than willing to help walk us through it. A great bunch of folks!

I got the OK at work that I can be off to attend the show! I'm so excited; I made my motel reservations last week, keeping my fingers (and toes!) crossed that they would let me off.

I want to enter a bird so badly! Actually, I want my KIDS to want to enter badly, but they are flaking on me.

Can I borrow anyone's kids to have the same interests as me? I have FOUR and none of them give a hoot about the things I like....it's all video games and hanging with their friends. Even my 7 year old who is the whole reason I got into chickens decided he didn't want to enter a bird.

I will probably still come, but I won't enter anything as none of my birds are competitive in the open sections.

Tuesday is the last day for entries anyway. Sigh....

Hey, who needs kids to show birds! I say if you want to show them, go for it! The best thing to do with video games is to toss them.

My personal view is overall, they're a pox on youth society. Not for the reason we hear on TV all the time, like "violent games will make kids violent" . . .not that even that isn't a factor. The biggest negative to video games, (or TV in general) is they keep kids glued to the Boobtube in bizarre fantasy worlds, instead of getting out there in the real world and learning important life lessons by actually 'living life'.

Unfortunately, We won't be able to get to the show like we thought we could. That danged "real life thing" bit me in the butt, and I have to work. But if you want to show a bird or two, you really should, you'll be glad ya did. This show is a GREAT one for newcomers, as Claudia and others will make sure there is someone who will walk ya through the process. Just show up, say "I have this bird, I want to show it, now what?"
