@Tomtommom - They do grow fast. I suggest you keep them outside with a heat source, it will make them feather out quicker. Many people make the mistake of keeping their chicks warm all the time. That will cause them to feather in much more slowly. If they were being raised by a hen, they would be outside in freezing temps and would run back to her to warm up when needed. With that in mind, I like to put the light on one end of the brooder and the food and water on the other. I put them in the garage with a light for the first week, in an enclosed, uninsulated room with a light for another two weeks, and then without the light for two weeks. They then are ready for the outside, with a box to huddle in, in all but the most severe winter weather.
@1chickenmomma11 - How big is your run? Is it flat or sloped? Does water stand in it? Is it in the sun or shade? I may have some suggestions, but I need more detail, and pics would help.
Outside today TRYING to clean up after all of this rain and flooding! My girls don't seem to mind the wet squishy mud in the run under their feet but I don't like it. Any ideas on how I can keep it from getting SO muddy?
