Hey this is Big Steve down in Uriah in Monroe county. I hope that this finds you all having had a blessed day. I don't own any chicken's yet, but am in the research stage. I have to save up some money to build a coop and fence in a chicken run. I am looking at raising wyandottes (silver, red, bluced laced red, and partridge wyandottes) they are all so beautiful.
Let me throw out a few questions for those of you who have been raising chickens.
1. Do I need to have a light in the chicken coop at night or does that bother them?
2. Is a six foot fence tall enough to keep chickens in? I would love to let them free range, but my dog and the neighbors dog would have a field day along with the fox, yotes, and all the other stuff in the woods behind the house.
3. Anyone suggest a hatchery that has wyandottes that will let me get hens only? I would like to get about four of each subspecies.
I appreciate any help that you may be able to give.
God bless the Great State of Alabama and those fortunate enough to call her home.
