ALABAMA!!

I'm in North Alabama ,in the last week I have had to kill 4 very large rat snakes. One six footer last week , one yesterday, and two together today. The one yesterday got about six eggs, the one today got a two month old chick. Last Summer overall we killed six but I have already had four in a week. Has anyone else seen an increase in the population? I don't like killing them, I've always been an advocate for snakes because I know they keep the Vermin population down but I also refuse to feed them expensive chickens. I've already proven that mothballs don't work, has anyone tried the snake repellent that's on the market?

Argh. One of my nine-month-old Easter Eggers is trying to go broody. She isn't fully committed yet - she only spends about 50% or so of her time in the nest box - and is still laying. I have chicks coming from Meyer next week. It sure would have been convenient if she could have timed this a bit better! :barnie
