Hi, I'm new to the forum, still somewhat newish to chickens. I need to learn more about integrating new chickens into an existing flock so I came here to read and hopefully get some ideas.
Until yesterday we had 11 hens (8 red sex-links, 3 blue Orpingtons) and 1 rooster of unknown breed named Colonel. Yesterday I brought home from an NPIP-certified place 14 amberlinks (1 of which is a rooster) and 3 gold-laced wyandottes (2 hens, 1 rooster). I only wanted layers but the seller wanted to include a male so I took them. Now I'm thinking eventually I might let the wyandottes breed so I'm glad I have that rooster. That may mean the wyandottes will stay separate from the rest of the layers so the other roosters can't mate with them.
We have a lot going on so we stay busy around here. We also are beekeepers and have 4 dogs who believe they are our children. Thank goodness we have them to supervise us and keep us in line!
