Well someone told me the sale in woodland wasnt bringing but a few bucks per bird.I adore my birds so will be keeping them myself if they are not bringing more than that. Paid that as day olds Then the cost in feed to get them to laying age.Ya not going to be taking them to the sale for that.

Crissy, you may try the auction in Goodwater instead. We like them a whole lot more----have not been happy at all with the one in Woodland. We went twice. The last time there were birds that had hen-pecked each other to the point of blood and were being attacked by ants (the hen pecking was the fault of the seller who stuffed them into too small a cage but the ants, IMO were the fault of the auction house) and when I told them about the ants, I was told that "well, the auction starts soon...." . I blame the seller and the auction house, but those aren't the type of people I want to deal with. I don't want them brokering for me and I don't want that type of people buying birds that I have put my time and effort in. We were at Goodwater this Friday and I got an average of $9.50 per 16-week-old birds, pullets and cockerels---I was pretty happy with that.

Thank you so much for the heads up. No i sure dont want to do business with them either. What days does Goodwater have their auction on? And what time do you need to be there? I have never been to one so really dont know what to expect.

EVERY Friday night. Starts at 7, but if you don't want to be at the end of the line, be there ahead of time. I think I'd have gotten an even better price, but I was litterally last up for sale and a lot of people had already gone. You can get there as early as 5:00, I believe. The folks that run it are really nice, and most of the folks buying seem nice too. I had several people come up and ask about my birds and how they were cared for and comment that they were healthy looking, so it made me feel a little better about passing them on. It was my first time selling, though my two prettiest birds came from there.

Just a heads up ... and I am assuming this is about the Askew's auction (Clay County Goat and Poultry), let me first say that this is my favorite auction; however, you want to make sure that you bring something for the birds to go home in. They have a "cage must go" policy but I believe they will allow you to bring a box instead. The point is, you have to provide a way for the new owner to transport the birds home but you won't have a lot of interest if the birds cannot be easily seen by potential buyers. You have to take this into account when deciding how to pen the birds for the sale. If you bring the birds in a cage but bring an empty box for them to go to their new homes in, you accomplish both goals. If you actually let the cage go, you have to consider the value of the cage and need more for your birds. Some people bring the birds in boxes but attach a chicken wire front so that they can be seen in the box but they don't have a lot of money invested in it. Lots of ways to work this policy out, but it helps to be aware of it before you get there with birds in a $40.00 cage and nothing else for them to go to their new home in.

Also, some other auctions will "choice" birds out. (If you have 5 roosters in a cage, they will sell them one at a time.) Clay County generally does not do this. So if you want to sell them separately, make sure they come in separate enclosures.

Having said all of this, it has probably been 4-6 months since I have been to the Clay County/ Goodwater sale, so someone who has been there more recently feel free to correct me if you see something has changed. You could also contact them through their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Clay-County-Goat-And-Poultry-Auction-LLC/108877855887647 to make sure about whether they are allowing boxes. I got $7.00 a piece for my baby muscovy this year. (They were probably 1 week old at the time.) Although all auctions have off days, you can get fair prices there most of the time, and sometimes you can even get more than you expect. It is very clean and the people are generally very friendly. We have been going there since 2006. I highly recommend it!

Hi all. Just wanted to share a pic of my newest additions.
My muscovy hen decided that late October was a good time to go broody. She hatched out 12 ducklings a week ago on the 5th. I've been busy trying to make sure that they are able to stay warm enough.
