ALABAMA!!

Hi! I'm in Chelsea, about 25 miles south of Birmingham. I have 5 eight week old Marans, down from 9. I foolishly didn't lock them up and a raccoon got in and killed 4. Out of the 5 I have left, I've been trying to decide how many of them are roosters.

Any one else have Marans?
We have French BCMs (actually one pair, thanks to a Bad Night involving a dog) and will be getting more in Feb or March, from the Cottage Hill line. And my lone MaransChick of the awesome chocolate eggs had the audacity to go broody and is now raising a family, instead of laying eggs!

I spoke with the owner of our local Feed and Seed today. He said that he would consider allowing us to use his parking lot for the swap.

He has to check on some of the regulations as they pertain to allowing others to sell and what permits, licenses, etc. would be needed, but he might be willing to provide the space. He also said that he would consider hosting a clinic

the same day. More and more of his business is poultry related and he would like to bring in a guest speaker to talk about some poultry topic. His only concern was how he would get the word out. I said I (we) could help with that!

His idea was some Saturday in April so let me know if there are dates that you know of that are already scheduled with some other event.

One step closer.........

Need to know sooner rather than later; also - where are y'all talking about-

Thanks
Margie

I am more interested in a swap type event, so count me in! Not sure how much help I can be with organizing since I'm so far away, but I'd love to help if I can!

I think it would be great to be able to provide a pamphlet or something with basic information about predator-proofing, etc. So far I know of nothing in April.

Other than the weekend of the thing in Moulton........... I'm sure at least some chicken people go there. Unsuspecting people like me who hear chicken and egg festival and think it's about, you know, chickens and eggs! April's so soon though. We need to hammer down a date and really get the word out!

Do some research on it -- I think it has very little to do with chickens.  In fact, I believe I read that last year was the first time there were actually any chickens there, and that was one guy who was into showing chickens.

Stumpy, I think you may need to do some research...last year(2012) they had a full fledged APA/ABA poultry show at the Chicken and Egg Festival. There was about 500 birds there with exhibitors coming from all over the Southeast United States and as far away as New Mexico and Ohio. That is a pretty good number for their first show. It is a triple show as well, there is a show on Friday, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. I showed there and enjoyed it very much. They have a sale area and I took and sold about 75 birds there. There were several hundred birds in the sale area. Pretty much everything there is in the chicken theme although they do have some arts and crafts and games for the kids. They also have many bands that perform throughout the weekend. It was my first trip there and I will definately be back to show again this year.
