I got my rooster from Lacon.

Did you get your banties from the couple who keep all the cages up on tables back in the corner?

(thanks to my roo from Lacon, my chickens are now multiplying -- 21 new chicks in the brooder, and two broody girls who are each setting 5 more eggs that should hatch soon)

Hmm... I think somehow every nook and cranny of Lacon manages to be a "small dark corner" (it's a great place) so I'm not really sure... I bought my baby chicks from two ladies under a tent that was near the middle of the back. There was a boy there and I'm not sure what his relationship to the women was but he's the one that really "sold" them to me because he was telling me what each one of the chicks were, hold old, and how much.

The chicks I got from them were: 5 bantam cochins, 2 standard chochins, 2 polish, 4 australorps. Then they some BR and BO but I didn't get any of those. I think they were about 2-3weeks old and they were 3 dollars each except the Australorps...they were 2. It just seemed like a good price.

What kind of birds do you have?

Based on your description, I'm pretty sure you got your chicks from the same people I got my rooster from. Their chickens looked cleaner and more well-taken care of than anyone's out there.

Let's see, our chickens...

Adults:

1 Rhode Island Red roo
2 Ameraucanas
4 Buff Orpingtons
3 Barred Rocks
3 Black Jersey Giants

Teenagers (8 weeks), all girls :

2 Ameraucanas
5 Rhode Island Red
2 Delawares
2 White crested black Polish
1 Golden polish, who is gorgeous (here she is)
1 Free rare chick (which I think is a Dominique)

We also have 21 chicks (pic) that are 12-13 days old that came from the adults (except for the Ameraucanas), and two broody Buffs sitting on small clutches. I expect to see pips on one set today or tomorrow.

Non birds: two pigs, nine cats, and a mother kitty with 4 kittens we're fostering for a no-kill shelter.

Too many animals at our place.

Hello! I'm from North Cullman Co., but going to college in auburn right now.
Anyway, I was just wondering what the chickens at Lacon Trade day are bringing now? I have bought most of my chickens from there, usually paid about 10-15 dollars for a grown layers, but it seems they have gone up lately, although I did get a laying Black australorp for $10 the other day.

I was wondering if any of ya`ll N.Ala. people are starting to have fly problems yet and know of A good remedy,,,my chicks aren`t bad yet ,,but my duck pens are getting pretty swarmy,,thanks and have a good Memorial Day weekend,,,we are having grilled duck,,,,

I'm driving down to Cullman tomorrow to meet a fellow BYC'er and pick up a Buff Orph Roo. It seems to be about the middle for both of us to meet up.

I have been getting quite a few flies here also and mostly around the area my ducks hang out in and someone on another thread mentiond to get some DE (don't ask me how to spell it out or pronounce it) but you gotta make sure it's food grade and I guess you just sprinkle it around the areas where your chickens and ducks hang out. Something like Di-me-tre-as Earth is what the DE stands for.

I just got a reply about DE,,thanks,,,it supposed to be great stuff and humans take it too,if it is the food grade stuff,,I bought some off the web and it is pretty expensive,,I didn`t check at the local stores ,,,I`m gonna see how it works,,,
