ALABAMA!!

Congratulations, Orps! That's exciting news.

Don't worry about the constant monitoring on your homemade bator. You can't get a "set it and forget it" bator until you are willing to spend over $500 ($600 - $800 is probably more likely.) I have one of those and LOVE it! But I still have to monitor the hatch closely once I move them to the stryobators for lockdown.

When I was using the styrobators from start to finish, I would have good hatches, and bad hatches, and there seemed no rhyme or reason for the inconsistency. Still, (Bamadude) it was good experience and I believe everyone should start out with a very "hands-on" bator. I would not have learned near as much about hatching if I had started with a push-button model and would have no clue what to do if there were a problem.

Keep up the good work!

When you learn to hatch in that, you will be a pro! I have one myself! Then you can add on (turner, fan, etc.) or graduate to a bigger, easier model and use your LG as a hatcher! Go ahead and order a ($20) SpotCheck thermometer from Brinsea and pick up a (<$10) Accurite thermo/hygrometer and a ($5) jumbo cellulose sponge at Walmart. Many people use the rubber-like shelf-liner in the bottom of the bator, and I used to use it myself, but I have gone back to just the wire in the bottom. I found the shelf liner caused more problems than it corrected.

I have used the LG for years (it's all I have) . I bought the hydrator/thermometer at Wal-mart, and turned by hand 3x per day. I average 98% hatch rate. Not to shabby, I think! ;)

So, we leave on Saturday, but we still haven't found a place for the MIL and BIL to move to first. We aren't having any luck at all.

Stress all around. I'm the only one that has been packing because of this. I'm less worried about going home and more worried about them having somewhere to go. It's driving me crazy.

Thanks for the welcomes.
