What do roosters act like? I have 4BOs and today I was watching them from the window and they were all running around fighting or sparig with each other and the EE Roo I have. Does that mean they are Roos or do hens do the same thing?

My pullets fuss all the time they square off and bump chests.

Be careful Alabama, we had a dog come in the clinic today, she played outside for 45 mins and had a heat stroke. Her temp was 106.5 !! Very dangerous

I thought the same thing, but it happened. The doc said it's because all our pets are rotten, couch potatoes! Living inside under the air conditioning. BTW she lived, she went home today, if the owner hadn't caught it in time, she wouldn't have been so lucky.

My dogs live outside. They just sleep in their house if it gets hot

The chickens have been panting pretty good.. especially the fat fluffy ones like the partridge rocks and the Australorps. Sad to say their yard is the coolest spot to be outdoors... nice shade throughout the day. They've got a big casserole dish (9x14 or something) with water to wade in.

I never thought about giving the chicks water to wade in! Do they use it? That is a good idea! My dog has a kiddy pool he plays in but I suppose it is too big for the chickens, I've seen some drinking out of it but never in it. I have some oil changeing pans I got at an auction, that would be a perfect chicken pool.

We are the same way. Can you just image if we don't have air conditioner? I would die!!!

I put out several shallow pans full of water for mine to wade in and they love it. I fill them with ice water in the morning when I let them out and by noon, they still have nice cool water to go wade in and cool off. I also freeze 2-liter bottles of water and sit out for them and they will go sit by them to cool off.
