Great looking coop can't wait to finish mine. How old are your girls Tom? I thought they were similar age to mine but they look so much bigger. I have to say I am absolutely in love with the rsl's they are so sweet and friendly.

Gonna be another 2 weeks before we can work on it anymore. Wedding shower Saturday and dad's memorial service Sunday. Lots of work to do for both.

The eldest are 4 weeks old, the youngest 3 weeks. The red and the white ones grow like weeds: they're a production breed, grow fast, lay like crazy, fizzle out. One of the rocks is a sweetie, loves to sit on me all the time. The rest keeps more to themselves. They still freak out when I open their brooder.

The sex-links are feathering fast. they're 3 weeks.

The jerseys (as expected) are slow to grow and feather, so are the australorps.

Same age I have 4 rsl two Leghorns? One light brahma one dominque and two ee's and none of them look that big the above pic was taken this afternoon

I noticed, I think I replied to you a page or two back, might have been at the bottom of a page though.

My baby got sick two days after me, poor thing. He's doing better now. Step-son came back from his mom today, sick -again-, mind you, he got us sick to begin with. *sigh* If he reinfects us all, I'm shipping him to Timbuktu...

I've had it with sickness and doctors

My son got diagnosed recently with hearing loss, so we're driving to Children's downtown several times a month.. step-son goes to a councelor to deal with his parent's divorce.. and then there's the well-child check ups, WIC appointments, and all the times they get sick. Aaaaah. I should consider myself fortunate I no longer work. There is NO way we could do it all if we both still worked.

I sincerely hope once I get the backyard farming thing going that their health will improve.. As much as I appreciate the assistance WIC offers, it's unpleasant to use, to say the least.. and you have to get Kellogg's and Post cereal, while I used to buy Mom's best.. And I don't usually give them juice, since it's straight sugar. I've only used it a few months now, but man, cashiers treat you like dirt for it as well. Back when we used formula it was a lifesaver, for sure. That stuff adds up, fast. Now that he eats solids, I don't expect we'll need it. He eats anything.

I'm rambling now...

Back to the chickies!

I've posted on another thread about sex-links. Someone said they look like partridge colored birdies. Apparently barring turns into lacing at some point? I love them, they're so pretty. I'm just curious -what- they are. They don't look like the sex-links I've seen (blackstar etc.)

Slower is better. They have grown to have twisted/crooked toes and the RIRs have bad personalities. Hooray for inbred production chickens

The ones that don't grow so fast look much better.

Awww, soup pot when they are a little bigger ? and get something different. That is what I did. I am going to keep a few chicks that I just hatched, but I am going to have mostly cream legbars and Sulmtalers.

That is exactly what I use. I have no problem cleaning it out when its time.
