ALABAMA!!

I drove by the co-op in Columbiana a few days ago and ofcourse they had the 'we have ducks and chicks' sign... Maaaan, and I thought I managed to get through the TSC chick days unscatted. Now I want some babies again.

Bad me.

Coop aint big enough for more.. but they've been free-ranging in their chicken yard a whole lot. And I made a chicken accessible compost pile, their new favorite place to be. Need to take pics!

They've been really enjoying the spoils of early summer.. watermelon rinds, corn cobs and every plant that has been caterpillared (translation: all my brassica).

They're 14 and 15 weeks today... getting close to egg laying age.. Mr.Roo is getting the teenage jitters (he's gorgeous, by the way). My white rocks have red faces, the rest is still pretty pink looking. Noone has very much wattle and comb showing, except for Roo.

*waiting*

I think Santuck is going to be your best option unless you can find the poultry auction in Millbrook. Another member told us about it a little while back. I think it's on Cobbs Ford just off Main Street.

I'm getting emails from Ideal Hatchery about ducks and goslings being available. It's tempting but my coop is full now, too. Sometimes, you just have to say 'no' to yourself, darn it.

I have Silkie hatching eggs available for $30/dozen. They come from splash/blue SQ parents. I have babies everywhere and can't hatch any more or the hubby will lose it. :D PM me for more info. I am located in Tuscaloosa county.

Tomtom, That Co Op in Columbiana is where I went to get my Turkey's! lol It is an hour and a half drive from me but no one else had turkey's! I only wish I could have got more!
But I do understand being full up! I had 2 brooders and 36 birds and it got to be a bit much trying to keep up with the messes! lol
I said no more brooding and more babies this year! lol

I've got 9 gals and a gentleman.. the run is 8x12 and their 'bedroom' is 3x8. They only use one of their 3 roosts (they will squeeeeeze together). And they're spending their time free-ranging when I am home. They just get fussy if I go away and they can't get out. Roo will make a ruckus! I had planned for 8-10 birds, so really, I am at the max. And they already eat me out of house and home...

Temptation though.... I want something a little more exotic than Plymouth rock and production red

Sure, I got my Australorps... but... they're just black chickens. I'd love something with a little pizazz. That's not to say I don't love my current bunch, but I like a little variety!

I had expected to have more roos that would need a home, leaving me some wiggle room. Doesn't that figure?!
