ALABAMA!!

We have all channels and extremely high speed internet. I didn't even really watch tv much at my parents' house and still don't now.

Let's face it, you watch 45 minutes of commercials for 15 minutes of lousy shows

They might start if they were the only rooster. But so far, I had 7 and not one crow. They are very big and still growing. I am keeping a few. I would keep themall if I had more room.

I noticed that a shy/scared rooster is a quiet one. The one I had didn't crow much, because of the older hens keeping him at the bottom of the pecking order.

Hey guys I'm from Oneonta (Blount County). My mother & I are fixing to start raising chickens and we're so excited & so nervous. Right now we're trying to decide if getting baby chicks & older chickens at the same time is a good idea. We're thinking that if we integrate slowly then things'll be ok. What do you guys think? We're leaning towards sex links for the babies & possibly red stars for the older girls but what are your guys' suggestions for good egg layers, friendly & more accepting of other breeds?
Hello FDaniels, I agree with Tomtommom on the chicks. We like to start with chicks and handle them to get them used to us. We have Autralorps, Frizzles, and 1 Easter Egger. They are all friendly with us and good layers. The Australorps are the best layers and the EE is the friendlist. My friend has sex links, they are excellent layers. Most farm supply stores have chicks and you can find some breeders on craigslist; always use caution when dealing with someone you do not know. Good luck to you and your Mom.

I don't think they are scared. They are bigger than everyone and don't back down if picked on. They come right up to me for treats and eat out of my hand so I don't think they are shy. I think it is just the breed. None of them are top rooster. They don't even try to be. They are fine with being in the middle of the flock. If they were an only rooster maybe they would crow. I don't know. I had one have a broken foot feather. I just walked up to him and picked him up. I kept him in my room in a bin with no lid for a couple of days. He was taller than the bin. He never tried to get out. I put him on my lap in the evenings and he sat there quietly. I think he misses being in the house. I love them. I just can't keep all 7. Well, 6 now someone got the biggest one.
