Looks nice! Is there a reason you didn't paint the roost and step down? Also would you happen to have any suggestions on how I could place my roost?

I drive out there, with all my babies in the truck and they sold out right before we got there! I finally managed to talk my husband into 6 more pullets and they sell out! GRRR!

Oh no! Does anyone know how many weeks they usually do the chick days?
When my dad saw that I bought 6 more he just shook his head at me laughing.

I didn't even go this week to look. If your store gets more in Monday will you be able to go get some?

I'm planning on going. It's small but kind of interesting. Got my first chicks over there. And that is the event where I saw my first english orpinton and fell in love with them.

What brand was it? I already bought the Kilz but I really need it in my hallway too .. builders grade paint and 4 kids.. is all I need to say! lol

I actually have a can of Barn p\Paint I saw at Walmart for $15 and grabbed that up too to go over the Kilz. With the coop being 12' x 4' I may need both since most of it is well I can't remember the name but you can see it in the pic, all the slices sandwiched together.. Particle Board? It will probably soak up a good bit and if there's anything left I'll use it for my hall.

My coop walls and floor are OSB as well, so far it's been holding up real well. I have one spot where the floor is a little soft, but that's my own fault. Cleaned the coop, ran out of shavings and didn't buy any for a few days

Don't let poop sit on OSB. It's not bad, just a small spot.

The roosts can pop out to be scraped off or replaced if they get really bad, didn't paint them to make it easier to scrape and it seemed like a waste of paint/time. It's just a 2x3. We cut the brackets out of a scrap of 2x4. One of those 'on the spot' ideas and it worked well. I've pulled one 2x3 out before and put it outside in the rain for two days. Nice and clean

TSC is starting to make me mad with that. It's because they are selling their whole tub to one person. WHY? Offer to order a whole dang box for those folks. I don't get it... it's folks who only want a few who benefit from chick days. It seems bad business to me

Anyway, check Craigslist. I found http://bham.craigslist.org/grd/4339346467.html the other day. I decided not to call, since I need to hold off a bit, but if the map is right, they're really close by. Cream legbar lay blue eggs and can be sexed at birth.

I may go. I live walking distance from the school and I never attend stuff like this

I'm such a dang hermit. Went to arbor day last weekend and my son didn't like it much... he doesn't like walking, he wants me to carry him. He's almost 35 lbs

Little bum. But he may like farm day, he's a sucker for animals.

Day 21. None of my quail eggs hatched

. I think it's because I couldn't keep the humidity up for the last few days. Homemade incubator was a failure.

So here I was at lunch deciding if I should throw out the last of the quail eggs in the batch that are left in the incubator. I already threw out the ones that didn't float.

So I float the first one and it just sat there on top of the water. I'm thinking it's dead.. The I picked up a 2nd egg and it's cracked(now I'm thinking "great, it's going to stink up my room"), looked at it closely and there was a little beak poking out of the shell. I peel the area a back just a little more and I can see the chick breathing.

So hopefully by the time I get home it will be out of the shell completely. Not great % but I'm happy I got at least 1.

BTW, I think you guys are the only ones that can appreciate ths. Rest of my friends would think I'm CRAZY!!!!

Yup. We're all a little crazy.

I remember how terribly heart broken I was when some of my eggies didn't hatch... two pipped but never got out

Totally felt it was my fault too. No one can understand that, but us crazy chicken folk.
