ALABAMA!!

I'm planning on going. It's small but kind of interesting. Got my first chicks over there. And that is the event where I saw my first english orpinton and fell in love with them.

I'm so EGGCITED to be adding a young trio of Blue English Orps hopefully shipping next week if the weather permits! 2 blue pullets and a black cockeral
YIPPEE!

Oh...but I do LOVE my Dorkings. Gotta love the big english breeds

NONE of these boys gave me one second of trouble like EVERY other thing I've had out there including hatchery strains of Silver Grey Dorkings. These are the reds.

Thanks for the info on fermenting feed. I started a batch today but couldnt find uacv. Maybe it will work without it. My brahmas are almost 16 wks old now. Can hardly wait to collect my first egg. Ive read about brahmas laying at 16 weeks. Wish i wouldnt have cause i check constantly. Feel kinda like the "watched pot never boils" phrase.

Thanks! I was not in town when he started on it and he had the nest boxes MUCH higher so he had to pull it back out and lower them, plus he forgot the dividers between them which he says he will now put in a different way since he didn't bring his table saw to my house. I saw a few designs with the boxes sticking out of the coop like that but wanted a removable nest to clean out /replace easier, and so if some one goes broody I can pick the whole thing up. It was this video on youtube that we kind of based the boxes off of to hold the sink tubs. He of course made mine sturdier than what these look like. You can see the whole thing wobble in the video when he messes with it!

My nest boxes are divided like that but We used 2x4's to hold the buckets and tin on the top so that we can take out and hose off.

Thank you Orps! I'm surprised you've even heard of them LOL

The hatchery Dorkings are very much underweight and not as nice type.
These are the old Tice strain and those boys weighed 7+ pounds at 8 months. I'll have to work to get the pullet weights up, but they weighed 5 lbs. which is a decent start! They are like little dogs and always rallying around to see what treats are coming .

I've found UACV in Target in the vinegar section, the Bragg's brand and another brand.

Someone suggested Dorking when I was first looking for chickens. Wasn't impress then but now I get it.

My coop walls and floor are OSB as well, so far it's been holding up real well. I have one spot where the floor is a little soft, but that's my own fault. Cleaned the coop, ran out of shavings and didn't buy any for a few days

Don't let poop sit on OSB. It's not bad, just a small spot.

http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/majicreg;-town--country-latex-flat-paint-1-gal-white I think that's the one... different packaging, but the specs and price sound the same.
The one I have is different but hopefully it will stand up to chicken abuse ;)
