Well, I received some eggs through the USPS today and it looks like someone had a really good time with them. I was surprised to only find one cracked. I figured when I opened it I would find just a gooey mess.
They're doing great too. Venturing out of the coop more and more. They actually made it up to the compost roost the past few days. They haven't dared to free range yet though, but that's ok. Even my 14 week olds took a bit to warm up to that (and now they get stuck between the run and the outer fence
)
See, there's a fence.. and a fence. About a foot of space inbetween and it's open on one side WAAAAY at the other end of it. The dummies get in and can't figure out how to get back out
Sooooo - this little cutie flew in and started living with our call ducks and geese out on the pond last fall. We named her Amelia for obvious reasons.
As it turns out, I have a good friend with muscovys and Amelia seemed lonely. So I got her a friend -- Brownie, a cute chocolate hen. Done.
Not quite: There is a large lake at my friend's house (much larger than our pond), and her sneaky scovy hens had hidden nests and showed up with babies and babies paraded around for me to see while I was there.
They were really cute in all the designer colors, and I couldn't resist as I hadn't seen baby waterfowl since last spring, and I get a few as I've heard they are great bug eaters. I do hate bugs.
And here they are now:
And I like them a lot! So much more pleasant than ducks and none of that running around crazy. They seem to actually think things through. And life is good.
UNTIL a week ago -- Amelia is broody and sitting on gosh knows how many eggs, so if anybody wants an invitation to baby scovy b'days and take some home, please let me know! heehee! No idea what colors, but dad is lav. He's the only male scovy out there.
