Glad we had a good downpour here in Montevallo. It had been several weeks. My new apple trees lost almost all their leaf, but, now thanks to the rain, they look like they're make it just fine.

Glad I had raked the whole run yesterday, cleaned the coop etc. The rain washed the last bits of debris out the run. Always good

A friend of mine near Wetumpka has had several downpours when we were bone dry. Amazing what these local storms can do.

Hello my fellow Alabama chicken friends,
(Looking for some BBS Orphington eggs, chicks or even an Extra Roo you need to get rid of)

I will be driving down to Birmingham on Thursday the 14th for a Dr appointment at the VA. I will be driving down 157 through Moulton to Cullman then on 65 south to Birmingham and back the same way. I am hoping that someone has some BBS Orphingtons around that route and would Love to meet up with someone to possibly get about 6 BBS EGGS if you have any. Those are my Favorite and I only have 1 Blue hen left so I'm looking to get some more in my flock if anyone has some I can hatch out that would be Awesome.

Does anyone have any that lives close to that route and we could meet up?????

I need to build a place for 20 chickens to sleep. I have 3 sheets of metal roofing. 2x4s and plywood. They have a good size run already. I dont want a walk in coop. I have a 4x8x8ft tall walk in now. My 9 brahmas just roost on a 2x10 that is 4ft long so most is wasted. I want something predator proof, easy to build preferably with the materials i already have except hardware cloth. I plan to buy some. Im in southeast bama. Anybody have any ideas or pics?

Slant roof would save in roofing material.

I would recommend a modified version of this. It's been excellent in our climate. With the roosting area high off the ground, my risk for predators is lower. We dont need a closed coop, 3 walls is plenty, you can even go with less. Shelter from rain/wind in the winter is nice, which 3 walls and an extended roof will do.
