ALABAMA!!

I don't understand why it seems that no one in Alabama currently raises black orpingtons (non-hatchery type) .....

I need one cockerel to put in with some beautiful 5th generation lavender hens and it seems impossible to find locally! Guess I'm back to ordering eggs to be shipped .....

My breeder has some BBS cockerel she is selling. I can call her up and see if she has a black if you want me to. Her breeding stock is from Garry Farm. http://thegarryfarm.yolasite.com/

You just haven't been looking in the right place in Alabama for Black Orps. There is a lady that lives in Dothan, Al that has the best line of show Black Orpingtons in the country. Her name on BYC is Bamachicken.

I've seen pictures of her birds. They are really beautiful.

Welcome! There are several regular BYCers in that area. I have often thought, "I wish I were closer to the Huntsville area!" Do a search (on this site) for Huntsville and look at the posts to see who all is there. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip!

I actually have corresponded with Julie. Last fall she was in the process of downsizing and wasn't going to have any eggs to offer (which is what I was looking for at the time). This year, she said she didn't have any available, but I don't know how often she is selling. I would LOVE one of her birds though! I wasn't thinking about that when I said there are no breeders in AL; however, there seem to be very very few in Alabama .... like only Julie, LOL. Thanks for all of the tips. Rancher, I would definitely be interested in maybe buying some eggs from you in the spring if I haven't anything by then! Thank you so much!

Well, hello everyone!! I've been referred to this thread by a few people, so I thought I'd drop in and say hi. :) I live in Morgan county, a bit south of Huntsville, I'm hoping to get my first flock in the spring, and that's all I can think to say. So, hello!

Hello and welcome! You have come to the right place to learn all about chickens and to find others who love them. :)

I'm just outside of Auburn.
