Explain the head feathers to me please!

Bantam silkie crossbreeds 3 week old:So can someone explain to me what is up with their head feathers? Are they having a hard time molting do I need to add more protein? I’m sure it’s a silkie thing but also what they are crossbreed with but possibly roo vs pullet hairs! And no they are not burnt hairs I only had the light near them at this moment or photo bombs. Maybe you can guess roo or pullet by this!? Lost

From what I can tell, nothing seems wrong. It looks like some of them are growing in a crest, which are making them look a little different from chickens who don't have them. It looks like there's also a few downy feathers still clinging on, which may stay there for a few more weeks, which is normal.

What are you feeding them for grain? If your feeding them chick starter, they should be fine.

As far as telling their gender, no, you can't really tell what breed or gender they are by their crest until they're much older. (As in, roosters will have a shinier crest with pointy feathers like the rest of the rooster, and the hens having rounder, duller feathers.)
