Alas, still no turkey eggs.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just have to be patient to see those brown, speckled eggs.

Because, you know, I just don't have enough eggs in my fridge now, with the dozen a day I'm already getting!

I really hope mine don't lay any time soon. I have 3 feet of snow and the high today was 19 F. It was only supposed to get to 10 F with lows in the double digits below zero. I can wait at least a couple months yet, May would be better.

I'm in VT (and trudging to the barn in deep snow also)and am new to Narragansetts. I have had 3 turkey eggs laid so far. I was hoping they would wait a month or two! Now trying to figure out if I can get some naturally hatched (either under a turkey or chicken) in this cold weather.

Hey, Den. I'm in MI too and mine aren't laying yet either. Which is fine with me. I'm not ready for them yet. My tom doesn't strut much unless his services are needed or soon to be needed though and he has been strutting a little bit, kind of half-hearted for a couple weeks now. This morning however, he was in full on strut mode, giving it all he's got. I suspect this warm up we're headed for here is about to kick start their season. I wouldn't be surprised if yours followed suit.

My bourbon hen was laying up until this last cold snap and now she's quit again. I cracked an egg and it was fertile so I threw them all in the incubator. Guess I cracked the only one that was fertile because there's absolutely nothing going on in that incubator and we're at 2 weeks tomorrow. Oh well, patience was never one of my virtues....we're actually still looking to see if we can find some virtues for me.

I live in western Oregon my bourbans have been laying since late November I have hatched out 2 settings. This may be a dumb question but are the freeranging and possible laying unknownst to yourself? If you see your hens squatting for the toms eggs are not too far away.

The new girls are squatting at the drop of a hat. By new girls I mean last year's hatch. When I put them in at night if I'm stupid enough to actually touch one or nudge one to get her to go into the coop BAM she's down on the ground! I end up having to pick them up and take them into the coop. But nope, the only one laying was their mother who oddly is NOT squatting.

My hens are having none of it. The tom thumps and strutts and blows at them and they just look at him like, seriously? It's 15 degrees out here and we're standing on a foot of snow. Where exactly would you like me to lay down?
