Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Hey everyone! So sorry you’ve had to deal with this 😢
Hoping the string works! I may have to do this as soon as the trees are bare😣
Thank you!💞 I'm hoping so too. Yesterday went well, but it was windy most of the day.

Lost another girl. They are locked up indefinitely. We're starting a remodel and I won't have time to figure something else out. The wind blew a ladder over and it caught one of the strings. I don't know if that's the reason or if it came in at another location. This is why I didn't want chickens again and why we put in the big free range area to keep them safe. I need another roo. 😢

You've been getting hit hard lately Rene, so sorry to hear you've lost another one. :hugs

Aww, I’m so sorry 😢

I went out to give my girls their morning treat. Then decided to give them some leaves to scratch around in! They thought the leaves were pretty danged scary... bunch of Ninny's! :gig

I know you are currently faced with a hawk problem. It is possible that those hawks are migratory, and may move on.
I know chickens do need run activity. Consider getting heavy-duty bird netting, and creating a sizable run with it.
I'm not sure how effective of deterrent the flashy foil, and CDs are :idunno
I know that predators tend to return to where they found a meal previously:(
Hawks can catch rodents,, but chickens are easier.:hit

Thank you Rich. I've thought about that. Right now on nice days I'm going to go out a bit before they would go in for the night and let them run around under supervision.

I have a camera that my husband bought for me a few years ago, but we never installed it, so that's finally going to happen, then we can see what kind of predator activity is happening out there.

I have a wild bird problem and I hung tons of the reflective/shiny ribbon and at first it works… like maybe a week or two then they figure it out 😣
I have used the bird netting and of course that works for over head predators. But you could try the reflective ribbon and use it like you did the string… taping it from one side to the other… that would be more noticeable to the hawks in my opinion… just thoughts😘

I hung the ribbon inside the coop hanging down like streamers not across… thought I’d clarify…
