Bonnie, so what is the story with the move?? Are you downsizing cuz you want to? What about the store? Inquiring minds want to know....

Just pokin' my head in to say HI! I got my first egg ever on the 17th, & have all birds now layin' eggs...

I can't wait for hatchin' in the spring time...once I get fertile eggs, I'll butcher my roo, & then stud out my hens for more, from a neighbors roo...

There has been someone that has been inquiring about buying the store for about 2 years now, and just as soon as we seem to get comfortable that he's gone away, he calls the landowner again and it's just wrecking our nerves, we're sick of it. We've always known that the place could be sold, but she doesn't have it advertised for sale, so no one except this ONE person has ever asked.

So rather than continuing to struggle and try and make money here, even tho it's more convenient with electricity and running water, we're going to move back to the other cabin. Off the grid up there except for phone/internet as that's how I make my money.

As far as the chickens, the 2 OEGs are adorable, but I won't have heat up there, I have to have tough chickens that can create their own body heat, plus I'm afraid the little roo, once everyone is older will catch the brunt of the older roos. So it's best that the little birds go elsewhere. AND I have a GREAT home for them already!!! A friend of mine that has one of my pups (Willow's brother) is going to take them!!

Awesome Bonnie, glad they found a home!

I have decided to put the two little blue girls up for adoption as well. They aren't really bantam but not LF either. They are now out of their broodiness (BOY were they broody!) and back to laying
beautiful blue eggs. We assume they are about 8 months old and assuming they are Americauna/Silkie crosses. I paid $20 for them both, so if I can just get that back that would be wonderful. They get along with everyone in
my coop and are the sweetest things. I just have to remain focused on what direction I want to go with everyone......

I agree with that Deb, I want a good batch of laying hens in the coop up there, but I need hearty birds too as they won't have heat and they'll only have water 2x a day, so they'll have to learn to drink before it freezes and after that eat snow. Lots of people think that's mean, but I'm thinking that Great-great-great gramma didn't have heated water bowls and coops for their chickens either.

The other batch of birds will eventually be Mahogany Orloffs.... we'll see what this hatch does.

Bonnie,
I'm sorry you are having to move. That's a bummer. I was thinking about dropping by the store on Tuesday or Wednesday. I assume it is the only store in Chickaloon. We are making the great circle from Anchorage to Fairbanks, over to Delta and down through Glennallen to Palmer and back to Anchorage.
