Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

O I believe it. I see -40 often, especially when it gets to be Jan-Feb. That was the reasen for my first post. I wasnt sure how hardy chickens were and wanted to make sure that they were going to be warm enuph. I plan on picking up another heat lamp so I have 2 in there but Im going to get timers and try to run it where at around 4am a regular light will kick on and stay on till around 8-9am depending on what time the sun is coming up. I plan on having 1 heat lamp on in there when it drops down to 0 and then if it drops down to -30 or colder depending what the temp is in the trailor I would have the second light to help if I need it. But Im hoping the one light will do. Only reasen Im using the regular white bulb is so they get enuph light to keep them laying well.

O and if you havnt read my other post im using a 22ft long Travel Trailor as a chicken coop and a 16x16 6ft tall dog kennel covered with wire fencing for the chicken run.

LOL! OK, so Deb's Blue Copper Marans pullet is going to hang with you for a day or two? Cool!

She was my only one, and I promised her to Deb a long time ago. I don't have room for another breed!

I plan on doing the morning rounds, then hunkering down for a good couple of hours of chicken wrangling. I'm sorry I couldn't get to the inventory sooner... I hope that there are more girls in there!

Bonnie, if I find I have a young blue silkie pullet, would you prefer the youngster, or would you prefer a seasoned white silkie hen?


O...M...G... I swear it looks like someone blew up my breeder coop... there are feathers EVERYWHERE! ALL of my breeders are molting at the moment. I need to post a photo of my peach-faced white Ameraucana girl, Pidge... she is 90% pin-feathers... looks pitiful!!

It's a good thing no one wants eggs right now!!

Ladies I'm having internet issues

I think my router is fried, which means I need to find a way to hardwire my laptop as that's where all my WORK and EMAIL things are

I think I'm going to have to get a LOOOOONG Ethernet cable and just hardwire the laptop rather than trying to use wireless and burning up routers. It's not like the two computers aren't in the same darn <---(did NOT type DARN!!) room!!

So if you don't hear from me for a day I'm throwing computer things around.

No worries Bonnie... we still have a couple of days. I'll do some serious inspections on the blue silkies I have in the pen to see if I can detect any more girls. I'll email ya.

Well I have a thermometer in there So I can keep an eye on what the temp is in there and plan on trying to keep the light off as much as possible. I ran it all month last month (only at night) to get an idea on what its going to do to my bill and only added 10 bucks so its not to bad. Any signs of how to tell if your birds are getting to cold? THings to watch for maby?
