Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Sorry for the confusion...Tracy and I are limited on time tomorrow so we are going to bring it back to Anchorage and divide it here at home.

Tori uses a bucket system that seems pretty low intensity labor. Maybe Tori could describe it again for us. Thanks for the info Paula.

I'm headed out for several hours and will try to check in this evening.

Whole Barley 1 cup 651 calories 135.2 grams Carbs 23 grams Protien

Sprouts 1 cup 15 calories 2.1 grams of carbs 2 grams of protien

We are planning to be there at or a bit before 11:30 in the morning.

Paula, any idea what the volume of sprouted barley is if you sprouted a cup of whole grain? In other words, how much does it expand...so can compare more acurately the protein and carbs.

Bonnie, Tracy and I plan to buy the whole ton between us. If you can meet there when we are there tomorrow, you can just bag up what you need and piggy back on our price. No need to go any farther than Palmer.

Gotcha, didn't know if that was what you were doing, just trying to be clear with so many people involved!

So, I can say that we will be in Palmer tomorrow as it's laundry/shower day, but not sure of the time. Guess if we catch you, we do and if not, that's ok too.

I checked, and 2-3 cup of barley makes 1 cup of sprouts. So it does bump the counts back up a wee bit.
Sprouts just do not contain significant amounts of calories.

I don't actually grow the barley out to sprouts... I soak it, then let it sit for a couple of days (turning it to keep it damp) until it STARTS to sprout. I then mix it with soymeal, beet pulp, a little cracked corn, and whatever else I can find to mix in. I routinely boil eggs for the birds, and they get leftovers and kitchen scraps. It's really easy to do it, but you need four 5 gallon buckets to do it in.

Carmen, I don't have room to store that much barley...only room for maybe 5 bags at a time now that hubby's parking in the garage again. 1000# would only save me ~$80, and I would spend that in gas, if not more, so it's not really worth it for me to try to get it from the Valley.

Our feed store would give me a break if I could do that much at a time, but space is the issue... I appreciate the offer, though!
