Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Ok, I have been told I still did the calculations wrong

pounds not parts, etc.

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

Why, if it's not to avoid family? Maybe that's what they're thinking. Doesn't matter that it's GORGEOUS up here, crisp clear clean air, wonderful wildlife, GOD's country... and that every day you feel alive because you're actually LIVING, not just living in a little cardboard box in the city, eating food that's altered and processed and just icky... ?

Why would anyone NOT want to live here?

Oh yeah... if you don't like winter, you won't like it here.

I'm from Upstate NY and they still live there, so winter is nothing to any of us. And they live in a fairly rural area, tho still close enough to town to be convenient. I think they BELIEVE it's to avoid them because they don't get along with Sam so well... but I need something more than what you said, because well, that's what I said....LOL!!

Feed by pounds should be 6 pounds of Barley and 1 pound of Fishmeal.
So I have 2,000 pounds of Barley, and I will need 330 pounds of fishmeal.
Costs are as follows.
$240 for the Barley, and $350 for the fishmeal. $590.
The cost of buying it premade is $700. So a savings of $110.
The savings are not as spectacular as I would like them to be, but, that number can be padded with the gas money we would normally spend on all the trips to get feed.
That more then makes up for the oyster shell and BOSS that we already buy.
This amount of feed will last us 6 months.

FYI this is for 20% Protein......

Subsistence lifestyle?
My family is a bit envious of all the almost free fish and red meat we harvest.

I'd tell 'em one more time that it isn't to avoid them, that this feels like home and you love it here, and if that's not good enough for them...well, then it's them that is alienating YOU and not vice versa.

It took my mom a long time to understand it, I still don't think she does, really, but she at least accepts it. My dad is just envious.

When I told people I was moving to Alaska... half thought I was nuts, the other half were sooooo jealous! LOL! Especially the guys.

I hunt every year for animals most men I grew up with would give their eye teeth to hunt just once!
I am a little bit popular "back home"

The only person in my house that's envious is my sister's husband. He's an avid outdoorsman. You see, they think that I could do the same thing there, or at least somewhere in the lower 48 that they could drive to, and probably I could. But I like it HERE and that's not what they get.

They don't understand my loving to live with nature over living near family. They don't get that I'm not a people person and that it includes family. I love talking to them and chatting online with sis, but for them to be able to pop in whenever would be too much even weekly... so what's the difference if I'm in Montana or Alaska???

I just want them to understand that I AM happy here... sis says she doesn't think I am.

All this revolves around Sam unfortunately, they think the sole reason for my staying away is because of him. Yea he's brash and politically opinionated and can be a real backsidewipe, but we are what we are and that's not changing. They are very different than Sam is... he's a screw you if you don't like it type, and they are all pretty mild mannered. BUT he is NOT the reason I'm here.... I married my FIRST husband after we joined the army together to MOVE HERE, and we did. Met Sam here, crap happened.... so I always wanted to come here.

The excuse with that, well it was an adventure then! Whatever.
