Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

As if I don't have enough going on, the dang humidity won't stay up in the bator!! It was at 60% this morning so I zoomed another wet sponge out and back in and it's back to 70% now.

Sam and I decided that if this chick hatches and lives, it's name is Journey.

I have to be gone a few hours Bonnie so I'll check in when i get back....

for that egg. I don't think you have too much to worry about with the humidity... It's pretty close to dry hatch at 65 or a little less.
These little Russians are doing great this Morning Rachel. Many Kudos to you and Deb for getting them to me... They are cute little rascals

I don't know that I'd worry about it that much... the ambient humidity here is 94°F due to the rain, and though it's drier indoors than out, every time I've tried to up the humidity I've drowned quite a few in the shell. I've had perfectly good hatches when the incubator was bone dry this summer, so just hang in there.

Same here. I think drier is probably better, this year anyway.....

I just went and checked it again, up to 75%

Been taking turns with Sam sitting with Willow in the other room and the egg isn't getting the attention is needs for my first time!! I'll get it back down....

Just open the vent all the way Bonnie and maybe take out the extra sponge if that's not enough...

It's open and dropping now... is it going to be better to have it around 60 or 70... it seems to be choosing those two places to hang.

well i think my cochin bantam is broody for real this time she is setting on 4 eggs and she is pecking my hand when i reach under her.she cant defend herself from bigger hens so i put i a screen over the nest box that is just big enough for her and i put a cloth over that to keep the other hens cant see her but she can still get out and eat and drink i hope she realy sets this time

Goodness Rachel, I don't think so? I haven't seen any "cheeks" on anyone yet.....I guess we'll really know in a few weeks...ahaha

Bonnie just remember that opening the incubator can be more detrimental than the humidity dropping....is the egg rolling around at all? If not that doesn't mean much
my BCMs never moved around much either....but if you watch it long enough and it moves you know for sure it's still in there alive.

Hmm, no but I'm not sure if it can... it's inbetween two fences... I keep looking for the pip...

Here's my thoughts (morbid ones at that) Willow is going away tomorrow (we have someone coming out) and I bet that chick is waiting ... soul exchange maybe?
