We used a lady in Willow who usually advertises on CL. I have no idea what her information is, I just watch for the "I'm cutting now" ad's......She usually charges $4 a bale
in the field, you pick them up.....
I'm on the search for hay as well, that's what we use for bedding etc....winter is on the way!

Rachel, I finally got to taking pictures today. Your Buff got crosswise of another roo this morning and got his dignity injured. I think by comparing his comb to online pictures and to the red Chanteclers I have, I think he is a Chantecler.

This is PJ. He/she was the larger of the two other chicks and had just about grown out of its pajamas…hence the name

This is Button. Button was the smallest and compared to my other chicks at the time was barely bigger than a button but held his own anyhow…hence the name

So, there you have it. Any ideas what they might be?

Aimee, new ad on Craigslist today for Timothy, but I think it's $8-$10 per bale. Blah, wish hay wasn't so expensive up here!

Awe...the little Chante roo is cute! I have to go down to Anchorage tomorrow to pick up some things, will be around downtown at Mill & Feed. Where do you live? I could pick him up or we could meet somewhere if you're not too busy in the morning? Otherwise, whenever the next time you head this way would work out. I think he will blend right in with the Buff Brahma pullets I have, and may fare better than I thought.

On another note, anyone planning to go to the swap meet tomorrow at Animal Food Warehouse?

Any of you ladies know the laws on raising, butchering and selling meat birds in Alaska? I have had someone ask me about buying my birds and I didn't want to say anything til I knew more.

WW, as long as they pick it up at your place, you can sell something like 1000 birds per year under exemption. More than that, and things get iffy. That is only for personal consumption, to sell to a restaurant or grocer they have to be processed at a USDA approved facility, and as of right now there isn't one. Well, technically, Mat Valley Meats SHOULD do it since they get federal funding etc, but they "don't want to mess" with the small things like chickens and rabbits.

I'm on their case.

Basically, if you had an individual inquire about buying your birds for their personal use, you're in the clear.
