Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Bonnie Karl has lived up here all his life and hunted that herd since he was eleven and for 2 years he couldn't qualify for a permit. Before that, yeah, but for 2 years a friend (sort of) who came up from the states, (when Karl was 20) who lived in the city, drew one, and Karl didn't. Back when they did it that way, Karl just told the truth about the percentage of subsistence usage, while a lot of folks were padding their scores. This was with the added advantage we had of living in the units... those guys still outscored us... go figure.

Archery makes a big difference. We got the last two moose that way.
Ticked someone off with the last one though. I don't think they knew it was bow season

I could just hear the call they likely made when they saw us packing meat out!

That, IMHO, is just stupid. But it's not just that herd, we have put in for other Tier hunts and get nothing. Maybe that's the problem, we're telling the TRUTH on the applications.

I'm just ranting, because we have been here 10 years and something or the other has gotten in the way of either being able to go hunting or not getting permits or something or other (just life basically), and NOW we don't have an ATV (or two as is needed for us) and we are not physically capable of doing anything other than close to the road hunting. Consequently, we've shot rabbits and grouse in 10 years, nothing more.

We're good this year. Kiche got a sheep and the moose, sheep and goat hunters left most of the meat. A lot of them want to take some home til they find out what it will cost to get it back there...

LOL Well there again, Sam can't even walk any distance... his knees are really a mess, so if we don't get one in the yard, or off the road, or a friends yard, we don't get one. He wouldn't feel right about going and letting someone else pack it all, and neither would I to be honest.

Old age and bad knees and backs prevent us from doing a lot of things... yea I know we're not that old... it's the MILES.
