Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

I've had it forever... I bought it from my sister, but I don't know whether she got it online or not. Do a google search for it. That should give you an idea.

IIF, the KitchenAid grinders are sold on Amazon.com and are about $50.
I believe Fred Meyer is even selling certain attachments. I plan to get one myself. The industrial one is great, but it weighs oh....300+ lbs. Great for making 100's of lbs. of burger, but if I want to do something on a smaller scale, it's not real practical!

Well, the guys are camped out at the Indian Trail head.
They took 6 horses, so that if if they get two moose, it will only be one trip packing out.

Steve has a very strong alpha conection with animals that they sense very strongly.
When Israel brought out the horse that Steve is going to ride, he scratched him right away on the nose,
and I am not kidding, that horse literally laid his head on Steve's chest!

My DH used to work in a Meat Packing Company in Fairbanks, so all our Game is done here at home..... There is just soo much that can go wrong in the Commerical places it is better to do it yourself if you are able..... I have watched him do it all, and managed to Process a moose and 3 Caribou myself (DH was called out of Country for a Job), The only trouble I ran into was moving the heavier pieces to the worktable!

When making Hamburger or Sausage we even do our own grinding, and I agree that getting the best machine you can afford is well worth it, we have an old hand grinder and it was a real pain trying to process the burger/sausage the first couple of years. But very satisfying in doing it ourselves.

KitchenAid to the Rescue! Yes, you can order the attachments online.

I'm so glad I can just sit down here at my computer and do catch up reading. I love to think about/plan hunting and processing the meat ourselves. Just because it makes my DH and I very unhappy to think of where our meat is coming from, and we want to change it, asap. Anyway, thanks!
Oh, and I got a little part time job to help out with some things around here. Monday and Tuesday evenings and Saturdays. My first check is going to get myself something I've been wanting for a few months....a fur hat.

I heard on the radio that we're supposed to get some snow this evening. I hope the chickens are ready for it!

We also do most of our own processing.
Steve worked as a butcher for a couple of eyars in a mom and pop processor.
We do not have a grinder yet, and occasionally borrow one. But, the rest of the time we have Lisa at Pioneer Meats do it.
The other place I highly rec. is Mat Valley Meats. Nate and his wife are striving to go as all natural as possible with their sausages and the like.
For purchased meat, they a happy to obtain grassfed/pastured meats for their customers.

The grinder we plan to get, is one of the better ones from Cabela's.
We have used the $500 one, and loved it. Especailly comapered to other moderatly priced ones function.
