Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Quote:
I have for years I either put them in my homemade flock blocks or let them dry on the counter then put them in a ziplock bag and let the crib midget beat them with a hammer untill they are super tiny chunks or powder and just dump that on my feed. Just my two pennies I dont ever let any chunk be big enough it still is rounded like an egg, just incase they think to try the real thing.

Okay, this is good to know... I just didn't know if heating the eggshells would deplete the calcium, or mess with them in some way. DD rolls over them with a rolling pin while they're in a plastic baggie. I think she likes the crunching sound.

I put them in a dish on the furnace to try... they're less mess if they're dried out, and easier to crush.

Mine go in a grocery bag lined gallon sized bucket by the stove.
I keep a small wooden kraut pounder in it as well, and every morning, prior to adding more shell, I give them a smooshing.
I actually keep mine for the garden. They go under the squash transplants to prevent blossom end rot.
Chickens get oyster shell.

GRIT ALERT FOR ALL OF YOU

AIH has 60 pound sacks of pea gravel for $6.99
The gravel is just perfect for the chooks.
No more will we be spend $30 for granite or need to scrounge the river beds.
