We are setting up to get our first chickens...hoping for a fun experience and eventually fresh eggs! We have 3 young girls that are excited to be involved. What type of chickens would you recommend for supervised children? Thank you!

I would recommend you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum to locate and post on the Alaskan thread. I know there are temperate areas of Alaska but, I think you would get the best advice from chicken people who live there in terms of what breeds do best and what type of coop is needed for the weather in your locale.

This is a Spangled Russian Orloff a true cold environment chicken
known to survive in Siberia and if you look close no comb or waddles
very friendly Rooster and Hen also handles enclosed areas very well ..
