That's cool. I think my older birds should start laying in Sept/Oct more or less. I'm hoping to keep the coop warm and light enough that they lay some thru the winter. How do yours do?

I insulated my coop and it stayed pretty comfortable. I didn't use a light (I will this winter) but I still got 6 eggs or so a week. Some, like the comet, kept them coming pretty much all winter. The Norwegians are supposed to be real reliable winter layers. I will be interested to see how we do with them. Sam's ameraucanas do really well in winter he said.

Here are the Boopsie twins Tori....

Good deal. I bought two more Norwegian girls that are about 2 weeks old now, so they probably won't lay til Oct/Nov or so. I'm hoping the Welsummer lays too. Guess we'll see what happens!

2 Favorelles - 9 weeks

The rest in the coop at 7 weeks:
3 Norwegian (2 roos)
1 Barred Rock
1 Spitzhauben
1 Rhode Island Red
1 New Hampshire Red
2 Polish Crested (one is a roo)
1 Welsummer
1 White Unidentifiable Roo

14 Cornish Crosses that are 7 weeks old

Not sure if I can identify all the babies or not... BUT...

Born 5/26/10:
1 Black Sexlink roo
1 Barred Rock roo
1 Silver Wyandotte roo
1 Easter Egger roo
2 White Laced Red Cornish roos
1 Silver Campine roo

Nope, not me. There's someone out here that ordered a bunch in and is selling them. I thought they were in Nikiski, though.

I've been most happy with my Dellies and Orpingtons for meat birds. Not as rolly-polly as the cornish, and not as fast, but they taste the same.

Kinda like chicken.

Have you noticed that you need an "off" sense of humor when it comes to poultry?

Well I couldnt see butchering any of the Dellie girls I have here, they are on the smaller side (hatchery). But I see a couple of really beefy little
heritage guys sitting in my brooder that I'm really excited about!.....I sure hope they'll have something to offer my flock..

Yeah. Well, I've been 'off' since well before poultry... I guess now I'm doomed!
