Oh I almost forgot, I was reading the Meyer hatchery catalog, and I came across this;
"Don't feed fruit to layers, since it can cause them to stop laying and it may take as long as six weeks for them to start again."
I had never heard this. I'm guessing they mean don't feed just fruit. Surely an apple core now and then can't hurt.

Aimee and Tori, here is Norman, now almost a year old. He's the daddy to your eggs. I only had a younger photo of him so I went out
and took a new one today.

Aimee... I racked up 10K on my credit card getting all this going, and building the breeder coop. If it's worth doing, and doing right the first time, you just don't look that close at the pricetag.

I know you saw my post on FB about them, and the Dorkings. My SG Dorkings are laying, but I've lost every egg I try to hatch. They quit around day 10-14, if they develop at all. This is only their second season, too, they should be in their prime. So... I pulled the roo (Jake) and put in a younger boy to shake things up. And in my Red pen, I put Jake in with the Red girls to see if Lucas is the problem with the infertility. I'm getting eggs, just none are fertile. I will (if luck is with me) hatch some split-reds that I can create my own line of Reds. It's an experiment, but I've heard it can be done. So far the "new" boys have been gentlemen...

Oh Deb, if I just get a roo out of the bunch I'll still be happy!

Well, maybe not happy, you know what I mean.

Tori, in order to incubate even 1/10th of what you do, I'd have to still go pretty big. I need to just man up and start eating some of the older birds...I don't see that happening right now. I'm a wimp.

If you find you can't butcher and eat them. Put them on craigs list. There are ALWAYS people looking for older layers or roosters. Get $10 a piece for them you'll be money ahead

I was just looking again at the table of eggs... I filled up that basket 3 times today... and wondering where the #*$&! I'm going to put them all.

BOTH cabinet incubators are full at the moment. I think I need to order some more stackable trays...
