Well, first time momma, and Pandora only had two kits. BUT... she was rather uncooperative with Dad during "the deed", and it is still cold/early, so maybe two is ok for the first time. Y'know, break 'er in easy.
One looks like it will be light grey like mom, one steel grey like papa. Adorable little boogers.
Two more momma's are due early next week.
For identifying chicks, I use a non-toxic marker on their head until I can put leg bands on them. Or the tiniest zip-ties I can find. I use those to tag babies as "spoken for" (Donna, your Ameraucanas are all sporting a little bling!) But you have to keep an eye on them, and replace them when they get too small for the chick. I missed one last year in my Millie's leg-feathers, and when I discovered it the leg skin had started to grow around it.
I caught it in time, though.
I don't know for sure if Rebecca's coming down this weekend. She called me late last night to warn me it's up in the air. If she doesn't come down this week, I'll try to make a trip up the week after next. If I can get away... taking care of all the babies (30 more in the brooder today!) is a full time job now.
