I'm getting there. I finally got the knot out of the back of my throat that I had been choking on for the last two nights.
Other than the hangover and being exhausted I'm not doing too bad.

Rusty's finally got his harem..!!!
A total of 6 Adult 1 year old girls. 1 BCM, 1 Barred Rock, and 4 RIR's.

I thought for a bit that he was "impotent" or "Disfunctional or something, because each time Tori would lay down for him, he would just ignore her.
But Boy, did he prove me WRONG..!!!
I had the 5 new girls in the car, so I grabbed the first one, and before her feet even touched the ground in the run, he jumped on her! No hesitation!
And he did that with all 5 girls!
I was like: "WHOA COWBOY..!!! SLOW DOWN.!!! You're gona kill'em.!!!"
So I realized something. It wasn't that he wasn't performing, he just has NO interest in Tori! LOL

Maybe that's why she's all depressed and not laying.... Se*****ly frustrated? Who knows....

Now I just have to check if he's fertile.
Anyone know how to do that?

Aaaaannnnndddddd.....
Yesterday afternoon my Coop had it's FIRST EGG laid in it by the Barred Rock.

I told Hubby we are NOT cracking it open, and I am keeping the shell and putting it in my Memory Box.
Although, I am going to make a small hole in the top and bottom, and blowing out the contents. LOL
This is SO exciting. I've never had an egg before...

well I opened the incubator to get ready to remove the turner for lockdown, and there was a pip as big as a bic pen in one of the eggs and a whole lot of chirping going on.
So I placed the hatch mat (shelf liner) and quickly filled the water troughs, added egg cartons and all the eggs and closed the incubator~1
I have to go to work so I won't be here for the next 12 hours!

I am going to miss them hatching!

Hey, does anyone know how long does it take for the Feathers to grow back on a hen's rear end?
3 of the 5 new hens I brought home have Bare-Bottoms, and I am eager to get their feathers back into shape.
Is there anything I can give them to help them grow back in?
They look SOOO horrible!

As long as you have a rooster you may never get their feathers into shape

Seriously, we have a few nekkid ones around here as well.......

Or you can buy them all saddles to wear, but I have found that it deters the male from mounting. http://hensaver.com/

Holy Cow I'm not on here for a few days and wow ya'll have been busy! Well I'm gonna try to post some new pictures of my babies, so bare with me!

I'm trying to keep hope.! LoL
Tori's been with him for a while, and her feathers are perfect, so I am hoping Rusty likes his Girls to look as "HOT" as possible in the Chicken world! LOL

Also, another question. Someone told me I can use Easter Eggs (the plastic ones) as "Fake Eggs" in the Laying Boxes.
I tried to use them, and they started pecking at them, perhaps because the color was off, or they were too light, so I filled them with Grit, to make them a bit more heavy, more like a real egg.
But I was wondering, can I spray-paint them to make them look more like real eggs?

I got 2 more eggs today! So that's 3 total! And another little girl is now examining the boxes so I think she might give me egg #4.
Family was all so eager, and Hubby ate the first egg laid, and the kids devoured the other 2.
I got ZIP. LOL But I don't mind.

Ash, up the protein you feed the girls - it will help them grow back their feathers faster. Add boiled fish or boiled eggs back into their diet. But Deb's right... as long as there is a rooster in there, you are going to lose feathers on your hens. And don't bother with fake eggs, etc. Just make the nests nice and inviting with fluffy hay and the girls will find them when they're ready. Don't force them... it will happen, trust me.

So far, still only 3 Marans chicks have hatched. I went into town, and came back to two Splash Orpingtons from Christina's eggs.
