I had picked up a chicken that got hit by a car to throw it in the dumpster at my parents place ( i was headed there when i found it) and when i picked it up it was rittled with little white bugs all over the feathers. im assuming these are the mites youre talking about? How would i go about keeping those away from my upland birds or do they get the same ones?
Update on eggs though; They are all doing fantastic. Can see the babies moving and bouncing all over the place in there. One set has the hatch date of this coming saturday, and the other three are the next saturday after that. Cant wait! Keeping fingers crossed!!

Ive been watching them a lot, theyre still eggs, still kinda round like.... wheres my popcorn!?

I just posted my two extra 4 month old roos on Craigslist and Alaskas list.
Two of them are purebred white Cochins.
Holler if any of you want them.
They will go fast I think.

Aimee, he's home and doing wonderful. Probably the most ornery of the bunch (Roo) lol.....I have to thank Paula again for hatching these guys out for us. I was mesmerized
by her mamma hen. I can't wait to see my chicks with our broody......!

Did not need to! As today progressed, he got his feet under him, and by the time Deb came over, he was QUITE feisty

I'm having a heck of a time with these babies that I got. I've lost two, the third is probably not gonna make it and it seems a 4th might be going down too.

The heat is fine, there's plenty of room for them to move if too hot, they have vitamin water and food.... what else?

Hmmm...I use a different school of thought, and use probiotics in water. Never used it so early though.
Not the milk kind, but Kombucha. Contains vital electrolites.
Maybe back off the heat a bit?
Its so warm now, that heat can really build up in brooders this time of year.
And you say they are eating and drinkng?

The last two were eating and drinking, yes. The first two, not so much. The vitamins that I am giving have electrolytes too. The heat's about 95 RIGHT under the light and 90 and less in other areas. They are in a chest freezer and the temp doesn't fluctuate much and I'm in a cinder brick building that doesn't even get warm until 6 in the evening...lol

I don't have anything else on hand to give at this point, but doesn't this seem a bit excessive? If this isn't the norm I won't be ordering from Ideal again.

Are you still in the report window? Most hatcheries guarentee replacment for up to 48 hours I think.

I got them yesterday from Ideal, they were shipped Wednesday. I sent them an email today about the three, but now it's pretty confirmed there's a fourth not happy. I just isolated that one.
