*~Alaska to Ohio~*18 Eggs* Cold Weather Test Day 23, 0% Hatch.

Hey Aly, when you get to day 18, do another candle. I candled my eggs last night in anticipation of moving them to the hatcher this morning. Some of the eggs almost looked like the chick had pipped into the airsac already, so I went ahead and moved them to the hatcher last night. I have a Millie pip this morning.

Last week, I had a pip when I did my day 18 candling... startled the heck out of me when he started cheeping at me! Most of the eggs hatched 2 days early. I don't know if it's the chicks or my incubator, though. The first few hatches with my new 1502 were right on time, so I'm wondering if it's the chicks? They're big and healthy, just several days early. Just a head's up.

Very nice!

I just had a bunch of millies and silkies hatch, yesterday and last night. The Dorkings are taking their sweet time, but they're pipped. Becky (blue silkie) is throwing the prettiest silver and light blue chicks right now... and a couple of Emmy's eggs (

I'm sorry hers didn't make it) are the darkest blue, almost black. I'll post some pictures later so you can see them.

Emily's chicks are coming out really nice... big fuzzy chunky chicks.

They are warming up and resting right now. Only two broke in transit, not bad all the way from Alaska to Michigan!! I will candle them tonight, if I don't fall asleep (busy day!) and then add them in the morning.

I'm glad you got them! I'm bummed you lost two, but that's why we put extras.

Now for the hard part...

Aly, how are yours doing??

They are still in the 'bator.

I've not candled since day 7. I won't open the 'bator until day 14 (unless I need to add water for humidity purposes)

I'm trying to decide if I want to attempt the egg carton method during hatch this time. The only time I tried the egg carton method, the carton got wet and I only had 1 chick hatch.

First off I have to say the wonderful people I ordered eggs from did a wonderful job and their eggs were fertile, but three sets I was very excited about must have arrived after freezing at some point because I cracked open all 32 eggs and it was like the eggs were fresh from the nest instead of sitting to incubate/hatch for an extra three days after their hatch due date. So, I'm wondering if eggs I've sent from egg swaps will have the same results.

I am happy your tests are proving better than mine:) I'm also trying two more sets, buff silkies from KY and Ee's from NY that are due the middle of March- preparing myself for the same results as the previous three sets but still, VERy HOPEFUL;)

I'm facing waiting till warmer weather, this far north...and hatching my own was giving me great results before this failure- yep, I was sitting tall in the saddle and fell down to the ground;)

Again, I'm happy your tests are doing much better than my results!

Tomorrow is day 14!!! I'll be candling in the evening after the kiddos go to bed!

Tori, they go to bed at 8 pm EST, so it will be shortly after that I'll post candling results...no impatient toe tapping this time
